Happy 6 month ampuversary little man!

I can’t believe it’s been 6 months since JJ’s accident…tomorrow marks his 6 month amupversary. Time flies!

He’s loving life inside with his buddy Princess and the girls. I’m saving up to get some stairs so he can come into bed with me at night now. I want him to be able to get down on his own so he doesn’t try to jump and hurt himself.

Here are some updated pics from last month…

Really mom? This early??? He's just mad cause I scratched his chest and made his stump twitch lol photo 1277708_10200551033483723_1081894614_o.jpg

Apparently JJ thinks that 4 am is too early 🙂

3 month Ampuversary!!

Today is JJ’s 3 month ampuversary!

He’s certainly enjoying the indoor life and he’s getting around really well. We let him outside with the “big boys” to play for about 10 minutes a couple of times of day. He also has his inside companion Princess so he’s never a lonely boy.

My 3 daughters were never able to play with him before since he was outside with the big dogs. The big dogs would knock them over so it wasn’t really safe for them. But now the first thing they do when they get up is go say hi to him. When we leave the house they all go to the gate and pet him and say “Bye JJ!” As soon as we get home they all run over to pet him and say hi.

Now…all I need are some of those doggy stairs so I can have him come in bed and sleep with me 🙂 That’s on my birthday list LOL

Hoppy Ampuversary JJ!

JJ enjoying life INSIDE

Well, JJ has always been an outside dog until his amp. Our 2 very large dogs outside prohibit him from being out there until he is FULLY healed…and I’m angling to make him and inside dog permanently 😉

He is now thoroughly enjoying the “inside” life…Mommy even sneaks him bacon (shhhhh! don’t tell Daddy)

Do I look cute enough to get another piece of bacon??

Stitches out today!

IMG_20130328_191945_432

Stitches came out today.  JJ is a happy boy to have the pink, sparkly cone off…even if it was absolutely adorable LOL

We are going to take him on a walk around the block tonight to see how he does.  He is now 16 days post amp and doing great!

One week post amp report…

JJ got a thumbs up from the vet yesterday! His incision is healing well and his remaining back leg looks good.

We can go ahead and take him of the Tramadol now (yay!) so hopefully I will have my bouncing boy back soon 🙂

A nice family stopped us as we were leaving the vet…they asked me how long it had been since he lost the leg.  When I told them a week they were very surprised. He gets around with no problems and looks like he’s been doing it for years!

One week post amp…

Today marks one week since JJ’s back leg was amputated.  Boy has it been a LONG week!

Appointment with the surgeon today at 4:30…I hope I’ve been doing enough for him. Just hard with 3 non-furry babies to look after too.  All the girls are anxious to be able to touch JJ and have him run around this house with them…and JJ just looks at me from his bed like “Mom, can’t they just leave me alone?”

He is still spunky though.  Tried to chase after a cat as big as he is this morning on his bathroom break.  He has the “tiny but mighty” complex.

Will update after the surgeon today…wish us luck!

Hello to all the tripawds and their pawrents!

Well here we are. Nearly a week post-freak accident and 6 days post-amp.

Just a little background on “us”

We have quite the furry and non-furry family! With 5 dogs and 3 kids (all under the age of 4) you can imagine what a busy house we have.  So let me introduce you to our furry crew, biggest to smallest.

We have Jesse and Chester. Basset Hound/Golden Retriever mixes that are about 70lbs a piece.  Got the worst of both worlds with those two.  (my hubby’s dogs…I take no responsibility for their actions LOL)

Next we have Tess. A Lab/Boxer mix around 25 lbs.  She is definitely the pack leader and isn’t afraid of anything. She is also known to have caught birds in mid-flight…

Then we have JJ. A 15lb Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix.  He is MY dog, as in he was MY birthday present right after my husband and I moved into our first house together.  He is about 9 now and was my furry baby before I had kids. He could jump about 4 ft in the air from a sitting position. I wouldn’t even have to bend down to pick him up…he would just jump up into my arms 🙂

Then there is Princess…the newest addition to the household.  Believed to be a Chihuahua/Silkie mix (we don’t know because she and the rest of her litter were purchased from a homeless lady in a grocery store parking lot). Weighing in at about 5 lbs she is our only inside dog…well WAS.

So a little bit about our Tripawd journey.  Last week JJ’s foot was severed at the metatarsals in a freak accident.  His entire rear leg had to be amputated on 3-13-13. But my little boy is a spunky one! He’s been home since Friday and I’m having a really hard time keeping him quiet! He just wants to go on walks and follows me around the kitchen when I’m cooking.  But he’s still pretty doped up from all of the pain meds. Hopefully I will get some tail wags soon 🙂
